AbstractThis paper describes a case study-based instructional approach used to teach baccalaureate degree electro-mechanical engineering technology (BSEMET) students. The need for an instructional model based on engineering case studies and the development and implementation of this model in selected BSEMET courses are described.

Examples of engineering case studies used in these courses are presented.

The Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET) is recognized in the United States as the sole agency responsible for monitoring, evaluating, and certifying the quality of engineering, engineering technology, and engineer- ing-related education in colleges and universities.

ABET has developed a new set of accrediting criteria for engineering programs in the United States requir- ing accreditation-seeking programs to demonstrate that their graduates have an ability to communicate eVectively There have been studies on the effectiveness of these cases which ethics and design require context and complexity in order to properly demonstrate the .

The integration of written, oral, and visual communications into engineering/engineering technology courses is important because (1) the ability to communicate eVectively is crucial to the success of engineering/engineering technology graduates in their careers and (2) language is a powerful tool for learning. An eVective instructional model for teaching communications to engineering/engineering technology students may include (1) writing and speaking assignments designed to promote active learning and collaborative problem solving and (2) communications in work- place settings.

Examples of such forms of communications are technical memos, technical feasibility reports, and engineering case studies School of Mechanical, Electrical and Manufacturing Engineering graduates have achieved many outstanding results as highlighted in the case studies below..

Like its law and business school counterparts, the engineering case presents a scenario that practicing engineers are likely to encounter in the workplace. Engineering cases are eVective instructional tools.

Cases present students with opportunities to analyze and solve relevant real-world practical problems. Case studies integrate, in an applicable way, the concepts already being covered in the course and this helps students understand the course material.

Students benefit from a real-life pedagogical approach because (1) they can apply pre- viously learned concepts and theories to real-world situations, (2) they can improve their interpersonal and team skills, and (3) they can engage in decisionDo you want to Citations (7)References (9). So, engineering case study is appropriated to support academic education on different engineering situations.

In this sense, Anwar & Ford 1 define engineering case study as an account of an engineering activity, event, or problem containing some of the background and complexities usually encountered by an engineer.

They also say that engineering case presents a scenario that practicing engineers are likely to encounter in the workplaces Case studies occur frequently in engineering because, by nature, a client (or professor) defines a situation, engineers need to understand it in their own terms: If an engineer responding to the Request for Proposal (RFP) below did not .

The educator can potentiate, during the practice of case study, development of certain skills in the future engineers such as interdisciplinary view, capability to relate theory and practice and work in group.

In addition, they are related to applications for aeronautical engineering environment: A case study analysis is usually presented as a report and will therefore contain many of the Headings can be used but there is no need to number these.
